Acoustical Grid Ceilings That Disappears Under Paint

Acoustical Grid Ceilings is a critical step in achieving a clean, professional Acoustical Grid Ceilings finish. At Smooth Rock Contracting, we treat Acoustical Grid Ceilings as an essential part of the finishing process, carefully applying tape to joints, corners, and fastener areas before building smooth, consistent layers of compound. Whether it’s a single room or a complete new-construction project, we apply the same attention to detail to every seam and surface.

Every Seam, Taped And Bedded By Hand

We set paper or mesh tape into a bed of joint compound over every flat seam, butt joint, and inside corner, working out air bubbles and excess mud so the tape lies flat and tight. It’s the layer that keeps a wall from cracking along its joints later, and it only holds up if it’s done right the first time.

Coat, Sand, Repeat, Until It's Flat

The tape coat is followed by a fill coat and a finish coat, each one wider than the last and feathered out so the built-up mud blends into the surrounding board. We sand and inspect between every coat, and we take it all the way to a Level 4 or Level 5 finish where the lighting calls for it, so nothing telegraphs through paint.

What Our Acoustical Grid Ceilings Service Includes

Acoustical Grid Ceilings is a standalone service we provide on its own, not just a step bundled into a bigger job. Whether you need a whole house taped after framing or a handful of joints reworked on an older repair, here’s what’s covered: paper tape and mesh tape applied to match the joint type, inside corners and outside corner bead, fastener head and screw pattern coating, multiple fill and finish coats sanded between each, Level 4 and Level 5 finishes for smooth, paint-ready walls, and texture and finish matching on repairs and additions.

Tapers Who Care About The Result Under Paint

Acoustical Grid Ceilings is unforgiving work, a rushed coat or a skipped sand shows up the moment paint goes on. Our tapers hold themselves to that standard on every job, which is why our seams hold up under the harsh light of a west-facing window or a commercial hallway lined with fluorescents.

FAQ

Acoustical Grid Ceilings Questions

Q Do you Acoustical Grid Ceilings as a standalone service, or only after hanging.
Both. We tape and finish board we’ve hung ourselves, and we also come in to tape board that’s already up, whether that’s after another crew’s framing job or on a repair.
It depends on the joint. Paper tape embedded in compound gives the strongest bond on flat seams and corners, while mesh tape works well on some repairs. We choose based on what the joint needs, not habit.
Typically three: the tape coat that embeds the tape, a fill coat, and a finish coat, each one feathered wider than the last. Higher finish levels or tricky lighting can call for an extra skim coat.
Usually 24 hours per coat under normal conditions, though it can run faster or slower depending on humidity, temperature, and how thick the coat is. We plan the schedule around real drying time, not a guess.
Yes. Blending new texture into an existing wall is one of the trickier parts of a repair, and it’s something we specialize in so taped patches don’t stand out.
Yes. We cut out the failed tape and old compound, re-tape the joint properly, and refinish it so the crack doesn’t just come back through fresh paint.
Most rooms get a Level 4 finish. Areas with strong raking light, like a great room under can lighting, get a full Level 5 skim coat so no seam telegraphs through the paint.
Pricing depends on square footage, the number of seams and corners, and the finish level you need. A free on-site, photo-based, or bid-ready estimate gets you an exact number before work starts.
